Just Another Day in the Life… With Six Dogs

Some days with six dogs are pure chaos—and today was definitely one of those days. Everyone seemed to want their own personal space… well, to share mom’s space anyway—which naturally created a little tension. MoeMoe? Apparently just tired and in full-on nap mode, giving everyone the look that clearly said, “Not today, folks. Do not disturb.”

Poor Nova just wanted her nightly pets, and if she didn’t get them… well, paws to the face. She has no patience for delays when it comes to affection. Remmi, meanwhile, had staked his claim under my feet, happily chewing his bone like he owned the place, while Ollie plopped into my lap, hoping against hope that Remmi would give it up. Spoiler: he didn’t, and Ollie gave me that resigned, “Really, Remmi?” look that only he can.
Winston decided that he needed to be close too, so he sat on the other side of Remmi, growling softly at the perceived invasion of his space. Tensions flared, and for a moment, it felt like I was refereeing a very opinionated, very fluffy debate. Harper, as usual, went with the flow and found a spot nearby. She didn’t need a reason—she just wanted to be part of it all, observing quietly while chaos reigned.
Anyone who has more than one dog—or a “full house” of pets—knows exactly how this feels. Some days, managing a multi-dog household feels like you’re constantly playing referee. You’re monitoring space, attention, and moods, trying to keep everyone happy, safe, and comfortable. Some days it’s exhausting, some days it’s overwhelming, and some days it’s just… managing. Heaven knows dogs are like people—they each have their own personalities, opinions, and little quirks, and sometimes we have to cater to those personalities just to get through the day.
But here’s the thing: even on the days when it feels like refereeing a room full of furry bosses, these moments are the ones I wouldn’t trade for anything. The little growls, the paw nudges, the insistence on cuddles—they all come with a joy and love that only a multi-dog household can give. They challenge me, they make me laugh, and they remind me how much heart and personality fit into one home.

By the end of the day, the chaos resolves itself in the most peaceful way. The dogs settle comfortably in their beds, everyone finding their own little corner… except Ollie, who has to sleep touching someone, so he ends up nestled against me, perfectly content. And in that quiet moment, with all the little dramas behind us, I remember why life with more than one dog—even a whole pack—is the best kind of chaos. Even when managing personalities feels like a full-time job, it’s always worth it for the love, the laughter, and the companionship these dogs bring into my life.
